  • Description: "PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS BLOCK 2 OF 2. YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE BLOCK 1 PRIOR TO COMMENCING THIS BLOCK. This is available as a recorded block. In Edwardian England, just before the Titanic sets sail on her ill-fated journey from Southampton and whilst there were rumblings of war in Europe, the Birling family are living a privileged middle class life in the north, profiting from the working class who work in poor conditions for poor wages in the family’s factory. They are complacent and pleased with their lives – until the visit of a certain Inspector Goole, who makes them think about who they really are. “An Inspector Calls” is a play about society, morals, politics, economics, discrimination and conflict. We will read the entire play in the group and watch excerpts from films and performances, which are often presented in a slightly different way. This is a very popular text for GCSE, included by AQA, OCR and Edexcel in their Literature specification. A copy of the play will be provided in PDF form on the dashboard, although it is only necessary to print it out if you wish to annotate it. Learning objectives covered: Knowledge and understanding of the plot, themes and characters as well as social and historical context.
