  • Cool Science - Polar Worlds, Pollution and Climate Clues

Bundle up - we’re heading to the iciest edges of Earth to explore the coolest science on the planet! In this frosty, hands-on nature adventure, students become climate detectives and polar explorers as they investigate how animals survive extreme cold, what happens when ice melts, and how our changing planet affects life at the top and bottom of the world.

We’ll test out blubber gloves and discover the power of penguin huddles in Surviving the Freeze, explore Icy Homes and what happens when habitats melt, and dive into the science of climate change in Warming Planet.

Then we’ll follow the journey of pollution through polar ecosystems - even reaching reindeer! - and finish by stepping into the boots of brave Polar Explorers who dared to go where few humans have been.

Tutor

Dr Jo .

Nature Quest & STEAM Explorers Tutor

Hi, I’m Dr Jo – scientist and educator. I teach Nature Quest and STEAM Explorers in the Hub, where we dive into the wonders of science, nature, and creative problem-solving — all through hands-on, creative, curious learning. With a background in science and years of experience in education, I’m passionate about sparking that “wow!” moment in children — whether we’re mixing potions from plants, exploring the changing Earth, or inventing with STEAM. I love helping young learners connect ideas, ask big questions, and explore the world through fun, engaging, and meaningful experiences. When I’m not teaching in the Hub, you might find me delivering workshops, running STEM clubs, developing learning resources, supporting teachers, and training scientists! I can’t wait to welcome you to the adventure — let’s explore, experiment and get inspired by the amazing world around us!
