  • Underground Worlds - Soil, Rocks and Earth Systems

Welcome to Underground Worlds – Soil, Rocks & Earth Systems

Dig deeper and discover the hidden forces shaping our planet.

Designed for children aged 6-14, this exciting hands-on module uncovers the secrets beneath our feet. Blending science, exploration, and creativity, children will investigate Earth’s materials and discover how landscapes are formed and transformed over time.

From building layered soil models to experimenting with rocks and simulating environmental change, each session encourages children to think like young geologists - observing closely, testing ideas, and making connections to the natural world around them.

Through imaginative, practical projects, children will explore how soil supports life, how rocks tell stories of Earth’s past, and how wind and water shape the land. The module culminates in a celebration of their discoveries, where children can showcase their models and share what they’ve learned about our ever-changing planet.

Blending outdoor-inspired learning, experimentation, and hands-on design, Underground Worlds nurtures curiosity, environmental awareness, and scientific thinking.

Perfect for nature lovers, young explorers, and curious minds. Book now and let your child uncover the science beneath the surface!

🌍 Earth Layers Explorers – build a soil profile model and investigate and compare different soils

Dr Jo .

Nature Quest and STEAM Explorers Tutor

Hi, I’m Dr Jo – scientist and educator. I teach Nature Quest and STEAM Explorers in the Hub, where we dive into the wonders of science, nature, and creative problem-solving - all through hands-on, creative, curious learning.
With a background in science and years of experience in education, I’m passionate about sparking that “wow!” moment in children — whether we’re mixing potions from plants, exploring the changing Earth, or inventing with STEAM. I love helping young learners connect ideas, ask big questions, and explore the world through fun, engaging, and meaningful experiences.
When I’m not teaching in the Hub, you might find me delivering workshops, running STEM clubs, developing learning resources, supporting teachers, and training scientists!
I can’t wait to welcome you to the adventure - let’s explore, experiment and get inspired by the amazing world around us!

Parent Comments

“I would like to say thank you for the service you provided, you have always been very helpful whenever I had any questions. Primarily you offer a great service, doing lessons online and watching the videos was a game changer for my daughter as she could watch them at home on her own schedule. Subsequently this has allowed her to take 2 additional GCSEs that she would not have done other wise. Thank you very much”

David, parent

“Thank you so much for everything!! You have been an absolute life saver. There was a time when I couldn't possibly imagine my son taking any GCSEs at all, and here we are ploughing through the past papers and sending him off to exams with a calm and confident son. Extraordinary! Thank goodness for you and your efforts to help kids like him - we will be eternally grateful.”

Ruth, parent

“I would like to say a huge Thank you for your incredible service. Such a brilliant concept and as an ex-teacher I'm very impressed with the quality of teaching, resources, well everything really! My 14year old is like a different child nowadays, wish I had deregistered him years ago in hindsight. Thank you!”

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for all you do at the Hub. It is such a Godsend for us. Our kids are enjoying their lessons, the live interaction with other kids and the lovely, lovely teachers. Where did you find such wonderful, knowledgeable but incredibly patient people?! It’s such a relief our kids can get a tailor made, good quality, British style education even as we live out this slightly crazy life here in the Mexican jungle! Thank you very much to all involved.”
