Content

  • Fairy Tale Adventures

Are you ready to step into a world of magic and wonder in Block 5?

I'm so excited to explore the enchanting realm of fairy tales with you in our Fairy Tale Adventures Challenge!

I’m 'wand-erfully' sure you're going to love it!

Pawprint badges are super fun and provide your children with an opportunity to work towards an end goal. They are a lovely creative set of cross-curricular lessons based around a theme. Your child will work through the challenges and earn the badge virtually.

A 'Fairy Tale Adventures' badge can be purchased on the Pawprint website if your child wants to collect them, but this is not a requirement.

Each week, we will embark on a new adventure. The activities will be as follows:

Week 1 – Introduction – What are fairy tales, and where did they come from? We’ll explore the origins of these magical stories and uncover their hidden lessons. At the end of the session we will make our own fairy tale scrolls.

Week 2 – Craft – The Gingerbread Man – We’ll be sewing our very own felt finger puppet of the Gingerbread Man—just make sure he doesn’t run away!

Week 3 – Food – The Three Billy Goats Gruff – This week, we’ll be making a delicious goat’s cheese and caramelised onion baguette bridge. Will it be strong enough to hold up against the hungry troll?

Week 4 – Games – We’ll be diving into fun fairy tale games, such as creating our own fairy tale characters, generating magical names, and testing our knowledge with a fairy tale quiz!

Week 5 – Other – We’ll explore alternative versions of The Three Little Pigs and then have a go at rewriting another classic fairy tale with our own unique twist! We will also plant our own beans in this lesson.

I’m 'spell-bound' with excitement and can't wait to see you all again soon!

  • Specialist Resources Needed:

For the introduction lesson, to make the fairy tale scroll you will need: A4 or A3 paper (lightly tea-stained beforehand for an aged effect, if desired) straws, or sticks (for scroll handles), String or ribbon (to tie the scrolls), felt tip pens or colouring pencils, metallic pens would look fab :-) and some tape.

For the craft activity you will need some gingerbread man coloured felt, googly eyes, scissors, card (something from recycling will do e.g cereal box), gingerbread man cookie cutter to draw around or gingerbread man template that will be uploaded on to the dashboard closer to the time, pencil, yellow colouring pencil or a colour that will show up on the felt colour you have chosen, pom-poms or small buttons to make gum drop buttons, contrasting colour to felt of ric-rac ribbon (not essential) and contrasting colour thread for stitching, needle, glue stick

For the food activity you will need: goats cheese, a long baguette, 2 x white onions, cress, olive oil, cider vinegar and sugar

For the bean growing activity you will need: a clear sandwich bag, some cotton wool or paper towels and runner bean seeds and template which will be added on to the dashboard nearer the time.

Early Years, KS1, Pawprint & Social Pods

Hi, I’m Hannah! I’m a primary school teacher, specialising in the early years (ages 3-7). I qualified in 2013 from Bath Spa University and have taught throughout the EYFS, KS1 and KS2 ever since, coordinating many subjects including maths, science and PE. In 2018, I completed my NASENCO award and worked as a SENCO, supporting many wonderful families, alongside teaching. I live by the sea in Weston super Mare with my husband, toddler daughter and two cheeky pugs. Since becoming a Mummy, I have realised how quickly our children grow up so have recently started teaching part time to enjoy this precious time with my daughter. I love sharing my passion for teaching with those of you in the Hub – it really is the highlight of my working week!

“Just wanted to say thank you so much for this amazing hub. The passion shines through in the lessons - the tutors enjoy what they are doing which makes such a huge difference. My daughter is using the recordings currently, which is such a brilliant resource, being able to pause and go back over at any point to something she needs to refresh on. I wish I had access to something like this when I studied but also for my older girls who are in their last year in high school! I will be recommending the hub to everyone!!”
