  • The Aztecs

    Aztec Adventure 🌞✨

In this block, we’ll be travelling back in time to explore the fascinating world of the Aztecs - an ancient civilisation that lived in what is now Mexico hundreds of years ago.

The Aztecs built incredible cities, created beautiful art, worshipped powerful gods, and grew many foods we still eat today, like corn, chocolate and avocados! Together, we’ll discover their world through crafts, food, games and creative activities designed to spark curiosity and imagination.

Each week brings a new Aztec themed adventure, helping children learn about history in a fun, interactive way.

Pawprint badges are a brilliant, creative way for children to work towards an end goal. Your child will complete the activities and earn their badge virtually.

If they’d like to collect them, badges can also be purchased from the Pawprint website - but this is completely optional.

Here’s what we’ll be getting up to each week:

✨ Week 1 - Introduction to the Aztecs We’ll kick off with an exciting introduction to the Aztec civilisation. Where did the Aztecs live? What were their cities like? We’ll explore their fascinating culture and history before creating our own Aztec Chimalli (shield) inspired by real Aztec designs.

🌞 Week 2 - Craft: We’ll create a colourful Aztec Sun craft using radial symmetry, inspired by the patterns and designs the Aztecs used in their art and temples.

🥑 Week 3 - Food: We’ll become Aztec chefs and make a simple Aztec inspired snack, learning about the foods the Aztecs grew and ate, including corn, cacao and avocados.

🎲 Week 4 - Games: Get ready for fun challenges including an Aztec quiz, pictogram deciphering, and spot the difference puzzles inspired by Aztec symbols and artwork.

🌟 Week 5 - Other: We’ll explore the fascinating Aztec gods, learning about the powerful deities the Aztecs believed controlled nature, the sun and the seasons.

I can’t wait to start our journey into the amazing world of the Aztecs and see all the fantastic creations and discoveries along the way.

See you soon for our Aztec adventure! 🌞

Hannah S

Early Years, KS1, Pawprint & Social Pods

Hi, I’m Hannah! I’m a primary school teacher, specialising in the early years (ages 3-7). I qualified in 2013 from Bath Spa University and have taught throughout the EYFS, KS1 and KS2 ever since, coordinating many subjects including maths, science and PE. In 2018, I completed my NASENCO award and worked as a SENCO, supporting many wonderful families, alongside teaching. I live by the sea in Weston super Mare with my husband, toddler daughter and two cheeky pugs. Since becoming a Mummy, I have realised how quickly our children grow up so have recently started teaching part time to enjoy this precious time with my daughter. I love sharing my passion for teaching with those of you in the Hub – it really is the highlight of my working week!

“After a year of mostly science and art, my child has recently started Creative Writing class. From the first lesson I was blown away by the quality of the teaching, the standard of work the children were submitting and the supportive environment of the group. The tutor has a fantastic rapport with her students and it is also so nice (and great for their self-confidence) to see the students give each other great feedback and encouragement.”

Louise, parent

“I would like to say a huge Thank you for your incredible service. Such a brilliant concept and as an ex-teacher I'm very impressed with the quality of teaching, resources, well everything really! My 14year old is like a different child nowadays, wish I had deregistered him years ago in hindsight. Thank you!”

Our kids are enjoying their lessons, the live interaction with other kids and the lovely, lovely teachers. Where did you find such wonderful, knowledgeable but incredibly patient people?! It’s such a relief our kids can get a tailor made, good quality, British style education even as we live out this slightly crazy life here in the Mexican jungle! Thank you very much to all involved.”
