Winter Challenge
We're going to be embracing all things winter over the next five weeks with cosy crafts, delicious food, chilly games and fascinating facts about the animals that survive the coldest time of year!
Pawprint badges are a brilliant way for children to work towards a fun and meaningful goal. Each week, we'll take part in a different winter themed activity. We will have plenty of opportunities to get creative, learn something new and have lots of fun along the way. Your child can earn their badge by completing the activities below. A physical badge can be purchased from the Pawprint website if your child would like to collect it (but this is completely optional)!
Each session will focus on a different winter theme. Here's what we'll be getting up to:
☃️ Week 1 – What is Winter?
We'll start by finding out what actually happens during winter and why the days become colder and darker. We'll explore some of the changes we see during this season before having a go at making our very own fake snow! ❄️
🧤Week 2 – Winter Crafts
We'll make a cute sock snowman using an old sock, rice and cotton wool before creating beautiful paper snowflakes to decorate our homes.
🥣 Week 3 – Winter Food
There's nothing quite like a warm bowl of soup on a chilly winter day. This week we'll make a delicious winter warmer vegetable soup - packed with tasty vegetables!
🎲 Week 4 – Winter Games and Activities
We'll have lots of fun with a whole collection of winter themed games and challenges! We'll play Snowman Beetle Drive, Spot the Difference, a winter Kahoot! and race against the clock in our 'Transfer the snowball' challenge using cotton wool and straws. If time, we'll also do a 'Winter Scavenger Hunt' too!
🐻 Week 5 – Winter Animals and Hibernation
How do animals survive when winter arrives? We'll discover which animals hibernate, learn what hibernation actually means and explore some of the clever ways animals cope with the cold. We'll complete a fun hibernation sorting activity at the end of the session.
