Day of the Dead
I’m super excited to dive into the vibrant traditions of Día de los Muertos with you in our Day of the Dead Challenge!
We will be exploring colour, culture and creativity together and it’s going to be skull-tastically fun!
Pawprint badges are a brilliant way for children to work towards a fun and meaningful goal.
Each week, we’ll take part in creative, cross-curricular activities inspired by this special celebration. Your child can earn their badge by completing the activities below.
A physical badge can be purchased from the Pawprint website if your child would like to collect them - but this is completely optional.
Each session will focus on a different theme. Here's what to expect:
💀 Week 1 – What is the Day of the Dead?
We’ll begin by exploring the meaning and origins of Día de los Muertos, thinking about how people remember and celebrate loved ones. Children will create a colourful sugar skull paper craft.
🌼 Week 2 – Craft: Marigold Flowers
Marigolds are a symbol of remembrance in this celebration. We’ll make bright tissue paper flowers and decorate small plant pots to display them.
🍪 Week 3 – Food: Sugar Skull Biscuits
This week is all about food. Children will have the chance to make and decorate sugar skull biscuits using icing and edible decorations.
🎲 Week 4 – Games and Activities
We’ll play a selection of themed games, such as bingo, spot the difference, and have a go at making our own pirinola spinner—a traditional Mexican game.
🕯️ Week 5 – Ofrendas (Altars of Remembrance)
To finish, we’ll learn about ofrendas—special displays made to honour people who are no longer with us. Children will be invited to make a small version of their own, using thoughtful and creative elements.
This block is bursting with colour, culture, and creativity! 💀🎉 Get ready for some skull-ebration fun! 🌼🍪🕯️
