Content

  • Learning individual letter sounds, blending to read short words and learning high frequency words

    Join us for a fun-filled phonics adventure as we begin exploring Phase 2 Phonics through stories, games, songs, and exciting interactive activities!

    Using the much-loved story Dear Zoo, children will be introduced to letter sounds and high-frequency words in a playful and engaging way. They will learn to blend sounds together to read simple VC and CVC words, as well as short captions.

    There will be lots of opportunities to practise sounds through repetition, oral blending, rhymes, and vocabulary-building activities.

    Children will also be encouraged to have a go at early writing and letter formation.

    Best of all, our friendly puppet friends will be joining us on every adventure, helping to bring learning to life and making each session full of fun and discovery!

    Perfect for young learners who are just beginning their phonics journey.

  • Course Objectives:

    To learn and recognise individual letter sounds for reading and recall for spelling.

    To learn to blend sounds in order to read VC and CVC words and short captions.

    To learn to segment words into sounds in order to spell VC, CVC words and write short captions.

    To learn to read and spell high frequency words.

    Specialist Resources Needed:

    Pen and paper or a whiteboard and pen. Children may like to use magnetic letters, or alternatively have the individual letters written out on pieces of paper. Children may also like to use playdough or trays of flour (or similar) to make letter shapes.

    You may like to bring a long a copy of Dear Zoo if you have it, but it is not essential.

Phonics Tutor

Hi Everyone! I’m Lisa. I am a qualified primary teacher and have been teaching since 2009, predominately in EYFS, and some in Year 1, 2, 3 and 4.
I have two children of my own who are 6 and 3, and I’m based in Gloucestershire. I love teaching phonics and even more so, love to see the sense of achievement from children who are learning to read! It is a pleasure to run the phonics sessions in the hub, and aim to make the sessions interactive, fun and enjoyable!

  • How do I access the live sessions?

    You will receive a confirmation email from Zoom, containing details of your live registration.

    You will also have a reminder one hour before the start of each class.

    The live session can be accessed from the 'Join Webinar' button in these emails.

  • I've missed a session, can I have the recording?

    All recordings are uploaded within 24 hours to here - your dashboard - so you can watch whenever is convenient.
