Content

  • Block 1

    Phase 5 alternative pronunciations to known graphemes and spelling choices for known phonemes.

    Builds on Phonics Phase 5 (Blocks 1-3).

    Continue to build on your phase 5 phonics knowledge to become a fluent reader and an accurate speller, through interactive activities and games!

    We will be learning alternative pronunciations for reading for the known graphemes /a/ (e.g. acorn, wash), /e/ (e.g. decent) and /i/ (e.g. kind), alongside learning the alternative spellings for the phonemes /ai/ (e.g. eight, grey), /ee/ (e.g. sea, happy, chief) and /ch/ (e.g. picture).

    All of this new knowledge we can then use to practice our reading and have a go at writing sentences.

    Online games, Kahoot quizzes and games such as bingo help to consolidate our knowledge!

  • Course Objectives:

    To learn and recognise alternative pronunciations to known graphemes for reading.

    To apply knowledge of alternative spellings for known phonemes when segmenting to spell words.

    Resources Needed:

    Pen and paper or a whiteboard and pen.

    An extra device (e.g. a phone or a tablet) may occasionally be needed for a Kahoot quiz.

Phonics Tutor

Hi Everyone! I’m Lisa. I am a qualified primary teacher and have been teaching since 2009, predominately in EYFS, and some in Year 1, 2, 3 and 4. I have two children of my own who are 6 and 3, and I’m based in Gloucestershire. I love teaching phonics and even more so, love to see the sense of achievement from children who are learning to read! It is a pleasure to run the phonics sessions in the hub, and aim to make the sessions interactive, fun and enjoyable!

  • How do I access the live sessions?

    You will receive a confirmation email from Zoom, containing details of your live registration.

    You will also have a reminder one hour before the start of each class.

    The live session can be accessed from the 'Join Webinar' button in these emails.

  • I've missed a session, can I have the recording?

    All recordings are uploaded within 24 hours to here - your dashboard - so you can watch whenever is convenient.
