  • Description: Phase 5 alternative pronunciations to known graphemes and spelling choices for known phonemes. We will be learning alternative pronunciations for reading for the known graphemes /o/ (e.g. both) and /u/ (e.g. music, duty), alongside learning the alternative spellings for the phonemes /igh/ (e.g. reply, behind), /oa/ (e.g. snow, hero, dough) and /m/ (e.g. thumb). We will use our knowledge of these pronunciations and spellings for reading and writing sentences. L/O: To learn and recognise alternative pronunciations to known graphemes for reading. To apply knowledge of alternative spellings for known phonemes when segmenting to spell words.
