  • Description: Phase 5 alternative graphemes and common exception words. In Phase 5, we will revisit consonant blends for reading and writing, alongside common exception (tricky) words learnt so far. We will introduce alternative graphemes ay, oe, ie, ea, oy, ir, ue and aw alongside introducing common exception words Mr, Mrs, their, oh, and people. We will use our knowledge of these alternative graphemes and common exception words to practise reading and writing words and sentences. L/O: To learn and recognise alternative graphemes for reading and recall for. To apply knowledge of alternative graphemes when blending to read words, and when segmenting to spell words. To learn to read and spell common exception words.
