  • Description: Phase 5 alternative pronunciations to known graphemes and spelling choices We will be learning alternative pronunciations for reading for the known graphemes /a/ (e.g. acorn, wash), /e/ (e.g. decent) and /i/ (e.g. kind), alongside learning the alternative spellings for the phonemes /ai/ (e.g. eight, grey), /ee/ (e.g. sea, happy, chief) and /ch/ (e.g. picture). We will use our knowledge of these pronunciations and spellings for reading and writing sentences. To learn and recognise alternative pronunciations to known graphemes for reading. To apply knowledge of alternative spellings for known phonemes when segmenting to spell words.
