  • Description: Phase 5 alternative pronunciations to known graphemes and spelling choices for known phonemes. We will be learning alternative pronunciations for reading for the known graphemes /a/ (e.g. acorn, wash), /e/ (e.g. decent) and /i/ (e.g. kind), alongside learning the alternative spellings for the phonemes /ai/ (e.g. eight, grey), /ee/ (e.g. sea, happy, chief) and /ch/ (e.g. picture). We will use our knowledge of these pronunciations and spellings for reading and writing sentences. L/O: To learn and recognise alternative pronunciations to known graphemes for reading. To apply knowledge of alternative spellings for known phonemes when segmenting to spell words.
