  • Chords and Playing By Ear

    This is a stand-alone block which is suitable for students who have completed previous blocks with me and for students who have never played a note before. Students can join in with a piano or keyboard.

    Ever heard a song on the radio and wanted to play it but didn’t have the confidence to work out the notes or the chords? Playing by ear is a very important musical skill that needs to be practised in order to become a well-rounded musician and this will be the main focus for our lessons. All students will be given the opportunity to develop their aural skills in order to develop this skill. Beginners will also learn how to play basic chords and chords progressions in order to be able to play their favourite songs.

  • Students who have played chords before will be challenged further by being taught how to work out chords to a melody by using their chords knowledge and their trained ear. We will also be learning how to use the parallel minor of a key to create a different feel to a piece of music. In addition, we will be exploring different ways of accompanying a melody with the left hand. All students will be introduced/reminded about how to play rhythms on a keyboard.

    To be able to work out a short melody by ear

    To be able to play a major/minor chord

    To be able to play a chord progress

Piano Tutor

Hi, I’m Natalie and I am the piano/keyboard teacher for the hub. I am a mum of two and a qualified primary school teacher. I have been playing the piano since I was 6 years old and have been teaching piano for around 24 years- both online and in person. I am also a classically trained singer and was a member of the Cantamus Girls’ Choir for ten years. Pre-Covid, I enjoyed singing to residents in care homes and running my own dementia choir. Music is such a huge part of my life and I am thoroughly enjoying teaching in the hub, where I can share my love of music and enjoy watching children flourish.

  • How do I access the live sessions?

    You will receive a confirmation email from Zoom, containing details of your live registration.

    You will also have a reminder one hour before the start of each class.

    The live session can be accessed from the 'Join Webinar' button in these emails.

  • I've missed a session, can I have the recording?

    All recordings are uploaded within 24 hours to here - your dashboard - so you can watch whenever is convenient.
