  • Description: How to Read a Lead Sheet. In this exciting block, I will show you how to learn a piece of music using a lead sheet. Lead sheets present us with the ‘bare bones’ in a piece of music. These bare bones allow the musician musical freedom whilst playing. We will mainly be focusing on playing a melody with our right hand whilst playing accompanying chords in the left hand. I will show you just how simple this can be and also how you can challenge yourself further. To aid us in our learning, we will be looking at: ‘A sky full of stars’ by Coldplay and ‘Happy Birthday’. You can choose to learn either one of these pieces, or both. Not only will you be able to play these pieces by the end of this block, but the lessons will also give you the tools that you need to be able to choose almost any lead sheet to play independently. Whether you have had piano/keyboard lessons previously, or you are a complete beginner who has never played a note before, these lessons will be differentiated to suit the needs of everyone so you can choose how easy or how challenging you want to make the music. Please note that if you would like to learn ‘A sky full of stars’, then this sheet music will need to be purchased for £3.49. (The link will be given in the dashboard.) If you are a beginner and would like to join in live, I would recommend purchasing the Condensed Catch-Up Block which will show you how to position your fingers; where the notes are on the piano/keyboard plus how to play chords and a chord progression. L/O: • To understand the purpose of a lead sheet. • To be able to use a lead sheet as the bare bones to my music. • To be able to play a chord. • To be able to play a chord progression. • To be able to play a melody.
