Content

  • Same Song- Different Vibe (Unstoppable by Sia and Carry You Home by Alex Warren)

This is a stand alone block which is suitable for students who have completed previous blocks with me and for students who have never played a note before.

Beginners will learn how to play the melody line whilst advanced students will add in chords and harmonisation. Students can join in with a piano or keyboard.

In this block, we’ll explore the art of musical transformation by taking an upbeat song and reshaping it into a heartfelt piano ballad. By slowing the tempo, we will uncover a different emotional layer, allowing melodies to breathe and resonate.

We’ll revisit the techniques we’ve developed throughout the year and build on them by introducing harmonisation- adding rich, supportive notes to the right-hand melody to deepen its colour and expression. Through this, even the most energetic songs can become something beautiful and reflective.

Our focus pieces will be Unstoppable by Sia and Carry You Home by Alex Warren, both of which offer exciting opportunities to discover just how powerful a change in pace and texture can be.

  • Course Objectives:

To be able to play ‘Unstoppable’ by Sia

To be able to play ‘Carry You Home’ by Alex Warren

To be able to read a lead sheet

To be able to play a melody with my right hand

To be able to add harmony to my melody

To be able to put into practice techniques that I have learned this year

Tutor

Natalie .

Piano Tutor

Hi, I’m Natalie and I am the piano/keyboard teacher for the hub. I am a mum of two and a qualified primary school teacher. I have been playing the piano since I was 6 years old and have been teaching piano for around 24 years- both online and in person. I am also a classically trained singer and was a member of the Cantamus Girls’ Choir for ten years. Pre-Covid, I enjoyed singing to residents in care homes and running my own dementia choir. Music is such a huge part of my life and I am thoroughly enjoying teaching in the hub, where I can share my love of music and enjoy watching children flourish.

“So glad that I came across the £2 Tuition Hub by chance last year, it has had a huge impact on my child’s life. He has for the first time had access to varied, age-appropriate lessons, with fantastic teachers who always make him feel included and valued.”

Louise, parent

“As well as being amazed at the range of lessons available on the hub, I have been delighted to find that the teachers have all been not only knowledgeable, but so friendly, kind and encouraging to all the learners. The lessons are calm and non-stressful, just what my child needs. Thank you to everyone at the hub.”

Hub parent

“We have been studying with the hub for many years now and both my boys have really appreciated the variety of courses available and the wonderfully inspiring teachers you have. We have done loads of courses, many of which have allowed my boys have successfully gained GCSEs and other qualifications like arts awards”

Katharine, parent

“I would like to say a huge Thank you for your incredible service. Such a brilliant concept and as an ex-teacher I'm very impressed with the quality of teaching, resources, well everything really! My 14year old is like a different child nowadays, wish I had deregistered him years ago in hindsight. Thank you!”

Claire, parent

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for all you do at the Hub. It is such a Godsend for us. Our kids are enjoying their lessons, the live interaction with other kids and the lovely, lovely teachers. Where did you find such wonderful, knowledgeable but incredibly patient people?! It’s such a relief our kids can get a tailor made, good quality, British style education even as we live out this slightly crazy life here in the Mexican jungle! Thank you very much to all involved.”

Carolyn, parent

“Very grateful for all your hard work, and thankful for all your help during these 4 years (can't believe it's been so long) - you don't know and I can't express in words how much pressure you take of our shoulders with this amazing palette of classes that you offer.”

Cristiana, parent

“I've recommended so many people to the hub, you guys have revolutionised home ed for us. Literally. After building up our confidence with using the hub, I've actually been able to take on work based back out in the community while my daughter is at home studying. Thanks for everything you are doing! ”

Tina, parent

“A massive thankyou for all you do at the £2 hub, we have been with you from the start and seen you grow but this is the first time we have done GCSE exams with you, and with great results! Thanks ”

Hub parent

“After a year of mostly science and art, my child has recently started Creative Writing class. From the first lesson I was blown away by the quality of the teaching, the standard of work the children were submitting and the supportive environment of the group. The tutor has a fantastic rapport with her students and it is also so nice (and great for their self-confidence) to see the students give each other great feedback and encouragement.”
