  • Description: During this block, we will be exploring the presentation of different cultures and places, including countries, customs and culture, food and language. You will be presented with five new poems, one for each week of the block and after looking at the new poem, we will return to one studied in previous blocks to show how poetry can be multi-themed. There is no need to have completed previous blocks – each block stands alone. We will be using the SMILE structure to analyse poetic techniques – structure, mood and meaning, imagery, language and effect on the reader. We will also learn about the poet and the context in which they wrote their poetry. Many of the poems feature in current GCSE and iGCSE specifications.
