Content

  • Biology: Living Things and their Habitats

This can be a stand alone block but will build on children’s knowledge of animals, habitats, and plants, and any learning on nutrition and biological needs. It strengthens classification skills and fieldwork understanding and lays foundations for focus on life cycles and work on evolution and adaptation.

Ready to become a habitat detective?

In this hands-on, outdoor-friendly science block, children will dive into the world of classification, creepy crawlies, and conservation. Each week, they’ll investigate the living things around them - from minibeasts in the garden to endangered species on the other side of the world.

We’ll sort animals like scientists, go on a real-life invertebrate hunt, debate how humans affect habitats, and even design ways to protect wildlife. Whether they dream of being vets, zookeepers, or nature explorers, this class is a must for all nature lovers and future eco-warriors!

  • Course Objectives:

By the end of this block, children will be able to:

Group and classify animals based on characteristics

    Identify vertebrate and invertebrate groups

    Use classification keys confidently

Make and record scientific observations during fieldwork

Understand how environmental changes affect living things

Use research and evidence to discuss endangered species

My name is Carrie Ann! I teach Primary and GCSE science in the hub. I have a degree in Biochemistry and over 16 years science teaching to my name, both in schools and the outdoor classroom. I am obsessed with making science fun for children! I want to inspire children to become scientists. Why? Because science is SO important. We need tomorrow’s: 👩‍🔬Doctors 👨‍🔬Research Scientists 👩‍🔬Engineers 👨‍🔬Inventors 👩‍🔬Nano technology experts If we can spark your child’s imagination to ask, explore, question and investigate; this becomes of a life-long skill which could lead down the path of an amazing science career. Who knows we might even have a future Nobel Prize winner?!
