About this course

  • £10.00
  • 5 sessions (live or recorded, 45-55 minutes long)
  • Time: 9am
    Start Date: 10th June 2026
  • Age: 4+ (Ages are a guide)

Content

  • Physics: Forces

This can be taken as a stand alone block, however it still builds on any prior learning from the year where children may have explored how objects move on different surfaces and learned that some forces need contact, while others act at a distance.

In this block, we extend their understanding of forces by introducing gravity, air resistance, water resistance, and mechanisms such as levers, pulleys and gears.

Children will apply previous enquiry skills to plan and conduct their own fair tests.

Get ready for a high-energy science adventure full of twists, turns and terrific tinkering!

In this hands-on block, we’ll dive into the world of forces – those invisible pushes and pulls that make everything move (or stop!).

From gravity-defying parachute tests to clay submarines and machine-building missions, this is science that gets you thinking, building, testing, and moving.

We'll investigate real-world problems, try out cool kit like newton meters, and design inventions that make hard work easier.

Expect curiosity, creativity and collaboration in every session – all while learning how forces shape the world around us!"

  • Course Objectives:

By the end of this block, children will be able to:

Identify and label a variety of forces including gravity, friction, air resistance and water resistance.

Explain how gravity causes unsupported objects to fall towards Earth.

Accurately measure forces using newton meters and understand the difference between mass and weight.

Investigate how surface type, shape and air resistance affect motion.

Understand how mechanisms like levers, pulleys and gears help us use force more effectively.

Plan and carry out fair tests, identifying variables and drawing conclusions from results.

Apply learning to real-world contexts and STEM careers.

    Specialist Resources Needed:

I will provide a detailed list of equipment prior to the block starting, but here is a general list to get you going. Any specialist equipment you can't get hold of I will demonstrate.

You don’t need to go out and buy anything special – most items will be around the house!

Newton meter or weighing scales (optional for gravity investigation) Small objects to weigh (e.g. toys, fruit, household items)

Shoe with grippy sole for a friction test

Range of surfaces to test (e.g. towel, tray, plastic, carpet sample)

Plastic bags, string, paperclips for parachute experiment

Modelling clay (e.g. Play-Doh) and a large jug or container of water

Scissors, tape, rulers, stopwatch/timer (or phone)

Lego, cardboard or small household items to explore simple mechanisms Worksheets can be printed from the dashboard.

Tutor

Carrie Ann .

Science Tutor

My name is Carrie Ann Booth 👩🏼‍🔬🧪💥 and I teach Primary Science, KS3 Science, IGCSE Biology, IGCSE Chemistry and IGCSE Marine Science.

I have a degree in Biochemistry with Science Communication and over 20 years of experience teaching science in schools, online, and through hands-on workshops and shows. Alongside teaching in the hub, I am also the founder of The Science Booth, where I bring science to life for thousands of children each year through explosive demos, practical investigations, and unforgettable learning experiences.

My teaching style is all about “serious science learning… but not too serious!” I believe children learn best when they are encouraged to ask questions, get messy, explore ideas, and see the real-world magic of science for themselves. My lessons are energetic, engaging, and full of curiosity, creativity, and wow moments.

Science matters because it shapes the future. Today’s curious children could become tomorrow’s:

👩🏼‍🔬 Doctors 👨🏽‍🔬 Research Scientists 👩🏼‍🔧 Engineers 👨🏻‍💻 Innovators 👩🏾‍🚀 Space Explorers 👨🏼‍🔬 Marine Biologists 👩🏻‍💻 Technology Creators

More than anything, I want children to leave my sessions feeling confident, curious, and excited to learn. If we can inspire children to question, investigate, and think scientifically, those are skills they will carry with them for life… and who knows, we may even inspire a future Nobel Prize winner along the way!

“So glad that I came across the £2 Tuition Hub by chance last year, it has had a huge impact on my child’s life. He has for the first time had access to varied, age-appropriate lessons, with fantastic teachers who always make him feel included and valued.”

Louise, parent

“As well as being amazed at the range of lessons available on the hub, I have been delighted to find that the teachers have all been not only knowledgeable, but so friendly, kind and encouraging to all the learners. The lessons are calm and non-stressful, just what my child needs. Thank you to everyone at the hub.”

Hub parent

“We have been studying with the hub for many years now and both my boys have really appreciated the variety of courses available and the wonderfully inspiring teachers you have. We have done loads of courses, many of which have allowed my boys have successfully gained GCSEs and other qualifications like arts awards”

Katharine, parent

“I would like to say a huge Thank you for your incredible service. Such a brilliant concept and as an ex-teacher I'm very impressed with the quality of teaching, resources, well everything really! My 14year old is like a different child nowadays, wish I had deregistered him years ago in hindsight. Thank you!”

Claire, parent

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for all you do at the Hub. It is such a Godsend for us. Our kids are enjoying their lessons, the live interaction with other kids and the lovely, lovely teachers. Where did you find such wonderful, knowledgeable but incredibly patient people?! It’s such a relief our kids can get a tailor made, good quality, British style education even as we live out this slightly crazy life here in the Mexican jungle! Thank you very much to all involved.”

Carolyn, parent

“Very grateful for all your hard work, and thankful for all your help during these 4 years (can't believe it's been so long) - you don't know and I can't express in words how much pressure you take of our shoulders with this amazing palette of classes that you offer.”

Cristiana, parent

“I've recommended so many people to the hub, you guys have revolutionised home ed for us. Literally. After building up our confidence with using the hub, I've actually been able to take on work based back out in the community while my daughter is at home studying. Thanks for everything you are doing! ”

Tina, parent

“A massive thankyou for all you do at the £2 hub, we have been with you from the start and seen you grow but this is the first time we have done GCSE exams with you, and with great results! Thanks ”

Hub parent

“After a year of mostly science and art, my child has recently started Creative Writing class. From the first lesson I was blown away by the quality of the teaching, the standard of work the children were submitting and the supportive environment of the group. The tutor has a fantastic rapport with her students and it is also so nice (and great for their self-confidence) to see the students give each other great feedback and encouragement.”
