Content

  • Animal Studies - What, How and Why?

    What are the similarities and differences between humans and animals?
    Can animals show human emotions and skills?
    What can we learn about human behaviour by studying animals?
    What are the ethical considerations when using animals?

    These are some of the questions we will discuss in this fascinating block, where we will also learn about some of the most famous and interesting animal research in psychology.

    To explore the use of and ethics of animals in research

    To understand the nature / nurture debate

    To describe and explain key animal studies and their implications for understanding both animal and human behaviour

Hi, I´m Mel and I teach a few things in the hub; psychology, sociology, ethics & philosophy, globetrotting, wild about animals and number ninjas! I´ve been teaching for 15 years and have taught from ages 7 to 18 hence the diverse range of subjects! My main passion is psychology as this was my degree and I find it fascinating to learn about human behaviour and love passing that onto the student. My love of animals comes from the growing brood of fur-babies I´ve fostered or adopted – I currently have 6 cats and 3 dogs (who occasionally appear in the background of a lesson!). I live in Spain with my partner and 6 year old daughter, Olivia. I love to make my lessons as engaging and interactive as possible to make lessons enjoyable and memorable, and hope to see you in one of my classes soon!
