  • Seriously Silly!!!

    What happens when we stop trying to make writing sensible? Seriously Silly is a playful writing block packed with ridiculous ideas, terrible advice, impossible excuses, bizarre rules and plenty of opportunities to make each other laugh! Through quick-fire games, discussion and short, manageable writing challenges, children will experiment with nonsense, exaggeration, irony and unexpected twists to discover how writers deliberately create humour.

    Behind all the silliness, we'll be building valuable KS2 writing skills including vocabulary, sentence construction, instructions, conjunctions, modal verbs, punctuation and editing for effect. With lots of choice and no pressure to produce pages of writing, Seriously Silly encourages reluctant writers to experiment, take risks and grow in confidence – because sometimes the silliest ideas make the best writing!

  • Course Objectives:

    Experiment with vocabulary and word classes to create deliberate humorous effects.
    Use imperative verbs, adverbs and sequencing language to write clear and entertaining instructions.
    Use conjunctions and cohesive devices to develop and elaborate increasingly ridiculous ideas.
    Explore modal verbs and degrees of possibility or obligation when creating rules, advice and consequences.
    Use exaggeration, understatement, irony, sentence structure and punctuation deliberately to create humour and comic effect.

Minecraft Explorers Academy and Creative and Reluctant Writers Tutor

Hi, I’m Laura and I teach English-based (Creative Writing and Reluctant Writers) and cross-curricula sessions (Book Club 5-7 and Harry Potter Fan Club) mostly aimed at primary learners on the Hub.
I’m a qualified Primary teacher, specialising in English, but have been private tutoring in English and Maths for over 9 years with a range of students from 5-16 years old. I absolutely adore tutoring – it is everything I love about teaching without the pressure and unrealistic expectations on pace and paperwork that tries to squash children into a mould which can be so damaging to their confidence.
I’m delighted to have found the Hub to be able to reach out to home educators and offer a creative and confidence-boosting curriculum that brings the fun back into learning and celebrates all the little achievements along the way!

    You will also have a reminder one hour before the start of each class.

    All recordings are uploaded within 24 hours to here - your dashboard - so you can watch whenever is convenient.
