  • Description: ""The Winter's Tale"" is one of the most moving and magical of Shakespeare's plays. It is the story of King Leontes of Sicily who, in a fit of mad jealousy, brings about the death of his beloved son and his gracious Queen and causes his baby daughter to be carried away to a wild and savage place to be left to the mercy of the elements. It is the story of that little daughter and what becomes of her and of the old shepherd who finds her and brings her up as his own, not knowing that she is a Princess. As usual, we will be studying each of the five Acts over five sessions, with a mixture of film clips, script reading and discussion about language, themes and characters. The script is freely available online. Learning objectives covered: We will be studying the plot, themes, characters and context to appreciate the literary talent of Shakespeare.
