  • Description: The Tempest. “O wonder! How many goodly creatures are there here! How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world, that has such people in’t.” Welcome to “The Tempest”, a tale of spirits, sorcery. monsters. maidens and shipwrecked scheming noblemen. Prospero, the true Duke of Milan, is now living on an enchanted island with his daughter Miranda, the savage Caliban and Ariel, a spirit of the air. Raising a storm to bring his brother – the usurper of his Dukedom – along with his royal entourage to the island, Prospero contrives his revenge. This play consists of five Acts and in order to be able to cover as much of it as possible, we are covering it over two blocks with a total of ten sessions, with a mixture of film clips, script reading and discussion about language, themes and characters. The script is freely available online. NOTE: This is Block 1 of 2. L/O: To understand plot, themes, characters, language and structure in the play. To learn about the requirements for GCSE Literature responses.
