    We are continuing from Act III of our popular Shakespeare tragedy “King Lear”. This is Block 2 of 2; you need to have watched Block 1 before starting this one.

    When King Lear rejects his most devoted daughter Cordelia because she refuses to patronise him with hollow sentiments, he embarks on a journey into humiliation, loneliness and eventually madness. In what is widely regarded as Shakespeare’s greatest creative achievement, a story of family conflict ultimately reveals the bare futility of the human condition.

    This play consists of five Acts and in order to be able to cover as much of it as possible, we are covering it over two blocks with a total of ten sessions, with a mixture of film clips, script reading and discussion about language, themes and characters. The script is freely available online. The play is mainly studied for A Level English Literature qualifications.

  • Course Objectives:

    To understand plot, characters, themes, language and structure in Shakespeare's plays.

Hello! I’m Diane and I teach a variety of Secondary English sessions in the Hub, which currently includes Classic Literature, Modern Literature, Shakespeare, GCSE English Language, Creative Writing and Poetry. I’m a recently retired Secondary Head of English, a current examiner of many years’ experience with some of the major exam boards and I run my own tuition business. I have been teaching since 2004. I’m now based in Somerset, originally from the Midlands but I lived in Cornwall for many years.

    You will receive a confirmation email from Zoom, containing details of your live registration.

    You will also have a reminder one hour before the start of each class.

    The live session can be accessed from the 'Join Webinar' button in these emails.

    All recordings are uploaded within 24 hours to here - your dashboard - so you can watch whenever is convenient.
