  • The Sociology of Work - Exploring Jobs, Power & Possibility

    What do a YouTuber, a nurse, a cleaner, and a robot all have in common? They’re all part of work – one of the most important parts of society.

    We'll explore the sociology of work and analyse how jobs shape our lives, our identities, and our futures. With discussions, real world examples and creative tasks, we will explore big questions like:

    Why are some jobs paid more than others?

    What does a “fair” workplace look like?

    What jobs will exist in 2040?

  • Course Objectives:

    To understand how work is defined and valued.

    To explore inequality in the workplace.

    To think critically about future careers, unpaid work, and automation.

    To recognize how gender, class, and age impact job experiences.

Hi, I´m Mel and I teach a few things in the hub; psychology, sociology, ethics & philosophy, globetrotting, wild about animals and number ninjas! I´ve been teaching for 15 years and have taught from ages 7 to 18 hence the diverse range of subjects! My main passion is psychology as this was my degree and I find it fascinating to learn about human behaviour and love passing that onto the student. My love of animals comes from the growing brood of fur-babies I´ve fostered or adopted – I currently have 6 cats and 3 dogs (who occasionally appear in the background of a lesson!). I live in Spain with my partner and 6 year old daughter, Olivia. I love to make my lessons as engaging and interactive as possible to make lessons enjoyable and memorable, and hope to see you in one of my classes soon!

    You will also have a reminder one hour before the start of each class.

    The live session can be accessed from the 'Join Webinar' button in these emails.

  • I've missed a session, can I have the recording?

    All recordings are uploaded within 24 hours to here - your dashboard - so you can watch whenever is convenient.
