  • Crime and Deviance - Part 2 of 2

    Builds on Crime and Deviance Part 1

    What are the relationships between class, gender, ethnicity, age and crime?

    What is the role of the media in the public's perception of crime rates?

    What methods have sociologists used to research crime & deviance in society?

    Is prison the most effective form of punishment?

    These are some of the questions we will explore in our second block on crime and deviance.

  • Course Objectives:

    To explain and evaluate the relationships between class, gender, age, ethnicity and crime.

    To explain the process of deviancy amplification in the media.

    To evaluate research into crime and deviance.

    To explore issues causing public concern such as the effectiveness of prisons.

Hi, I´m Mel and I teach a few things in the hub; psychology, sociology, ethics & philosophy, globetrotting, wild about animals and number ninjas!
I´ve been teaching for 15 years and have taught from ages 7 to 18 hence the diverse range of subjects! My main passion is psychology as this was my degree and I find it fascinating to learn about human behaviour and love passing that onto the student.
My love of animals comes from the growing brood of fur-babies I´ve fostered or adopted – I currently have 6 cats and 3 dogs (who occasionally appear in the background of a lesson!). I live in Spain with my partner and 6 year old daughter, Olivia.
I love to make my lessons as engaging and interactive as possible to make lessons enjoyable and memorable, and hope to see you in one of my classes soon!

    All recordings are uploaded within 24 hours to here - your dashboard - so you can watch whenever is convenient.
