    This is a standalone topic but does use concepts and theories from block 1.

    In this block we explore the role of the family according to different sociological perspectives, consider family diversity and how families have changed over time and why, roles and relationships within the family and functionalist, feminist and marxist view on them.

    To explain the functions of the family according to sociological perspectives

    To describe and explain the reasons for changing family types

    To understand changing roles and relationships in the family

    To understand how government policies have influenced changes in the family.

Hi, I´m Mel and I teach a few things in the hub; psychology, sociology, ethics & philosophy, globetrotting, wild about animals and number ninjas! I´ve been teaching for 15 years and have taught from ages 7 to 18 hence the diverse range of subjects! My main passion is psychology as this was my degree and I find it fascinating to learn about human behaviour and love passing that onto the student. My love of animals comes from the growing brood of fur-babies I´ve fostered or adopted – I currently have 6 cats and 3 dogs (who occasionally appear in the background of a lesson!). I live in Spain with my partner and 6 year old daughter, Olivia. I love to make my lessons as engaging and interactive as possible to make lessons enjoyable and memorable, and hope to see you in one of my classes soon!
