    Environment, Energy and Ecosystem Design

    What if you could help design a better planet?

    In this hands-on STEAM module, students step into the role of Earth engineers, tackling real-world environmental challenges through creativity, experimentation, and smart design thinking.

    Learners will generate clean energy as they build and test their own wind turbines, imagine climate-resilient communities in Floating Futures, and take on a desert survival ecosystem challenge that puts problem-solving skills to the test.

    We’ll capture the power of the sun in Sun Power Lab, exploring renewable energy in action, and finish strong with Green Builders, where students engineer innovative solutions to help people and ecosystems thrive.

    From renewable energy to resilient habitats, this module empowers young innovators to think critically, design responsibly, and engineer a more sustainable world - one brilliant idea at a time. 🌍⚙️🌱

  • Course Objectives:

    Designing, testing, and re-imagining our world through environmental engineering!

    Students will explore how energy is created, how ecosystems can be designed to survive changing conditions, and how engineers solve real-world problems.

    Through building, experimenting, modelling, and problem solving, learners will develop creative and sustainable solutions for a better planet.

Hi, I’m Dr Jo – scientist and educator. I teach Nature Quest and STEAM Explorers in the Hub, where we dive into the wonders of science, nature, and creative problem-solving — all through hands-on, creative, curious learning. With a background in science and years of experience in education, I’m passionate about sparking that “wow!” moment in children — whether we’re mixing potions from plants, exploring the changing Earth, or inventing with STEAM. I love helping young learners connect ideas, ask big questions, and explore the world through fun, engaging, and meaningful experiences. When I’m not teaching in the Hub, you might find me delivering workshops, running STEM clubs, developing learning resources, supporting teachers, and training scientists! I can’t wait to welcome you to the adventure — let’s explore, experiment and get inspired by the amazing world around us!
