    Forces, Motion and Machines in Action

    Strap in for a hands-on adventure where science takes off, rolls fast, and builds big! 

    In this action-packed block, students explore how forces and motion shape the world around us - by experimenting, engineering, and inventing every step of the way.

    We’ll put aerodynamic ideas to the test in our Flight Lab, design hilariously disastrous rockets in Rocket Fails, and power up custom racers in Zoom! Build Your Own Air-Powered Vehicle.

    Then we’ll get things lifting and shifting with real-world simple machines, and wrap up by crafting quirky little robots in Bot Basics that do some surprising moves.

    From soaring paper planes to pulleys, pop-powered vehicles and playful bots, this module turns curiosity into motion and imagination into invention.

Hi, I’m Dr Jo – scientist and educator. I teach Nature Quest and STEAM Explorers in the Hub, where we dive into the wonders of science, nature, and creative problem-solving — all through hands-on, creative, curious learning. With a background in science and years of experience in education, I’m passionate about sparking that “wow!” moment in children — whether we’re mixing potions from plants, exploring the changing Earth, or inventing with STEAM. I love helping young learners connect ideas, ask big questions, and explore the world through fun, engaging, and meaningful experiences. When I’m not teaching in the Hub, you might find me delivering workshops, running STEM clubs, developing learning resources, supporting teachers, and training scientists! I can’t wait to welcome you to the adventure — let’s explore, experiment and get inspired by the amazing world around us!
