  • 🌍 Material World: Chemistry, Design and Sustainable Choices

    Step into the fascinating world where science meets creativity and sustainability.

    This hands-on module explores the materials that shape our everyday lives.

    Through exciting challenges, we will investigate the chemistry behind these materials, uncover the environmental issues they raise, and design innovative solutions for a more sustainable future.

    From formulating and testing our own toothpaste, to engineering water filters, to tackling the global plastics problem, we will develop key scientific skills while thinking like designers and problem-solvers.

    Along the way, we’ll discover how chemistry and creativity work hand in hand to build a better world.

Hi, I’m Dr Jo – scientist and educator. I teach Nature Quest and STEAM Explorers in the Hub, where we dive into the wonders of science, nature, and creative problem-solving — all through hands-on, creative, curious learning. With a background in science and years of experience in education, I’m passionate about sparking that “wow!” moment in children — whether we’re mixing potions from plants, exploring the changing Earth, or inventing with STEAM. I love helping young learners connect ideas, ask big questions, and explore the world through fun, engaging, and meaningful experiences. When I’m not teaching in the Hub, you might find me delivering workshops, running STEM clubs, developing learning resources, supporting teachers, and training scientists! I can’t wait to welcome you to the adventure — let’s explore, experiment and get inspired by the amazing world around us!

    You will also have a reminder one hour before the start of each class.

    The live session can be accessed from the 'Join Webinar' button in these emails.

    All recordings are uploaded within 24 hours to here - your dashboard - so you can watch whenever is convenient.
