  • Build It!
    Engineering, Structures & Design Thinking

Welcome to STEAM Explorers – where young innovators bring ideas to life through hands-on science, design, and invention.

Designed for children aged 7 to 12, this exciting series explores the worlds of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths through creative challenges and real-world problem-solving. From building spaghetti towers and testing water rockets, to designing wearable tech and cleaning up mini oil spills, each session encourages imagination, experimentation and teamwork.

With a focus on construction, motion, materials, sustainability and creative design, children will learn how things work – and how to make them better. Whether they’re building a marble rollercoaster, creating a floating garden, or launching a paper plane, every activity is designed to inspire curiosity and build confidence.

This block, Build It! Engineering, Structures & Design Thinking, includes:

Bridge the gap - building strong, balanced structures

Tower power - tall, stable builds and domes that amaze

Model Makers - crafting with cardboard and connectors

    Marble rollercoaster challenge

Drop Zone - the ultimate egg-saving challenge

Perfect for children who love to invent, tinker, and explore through making. Book now and let your child discover the fun of learning by doing – the STEAM way.

Tutor

Dr Jo .

Nature Quest & STEAM Explorers Tutor

Hi, I’m Dr Jo – scientist and educator. I teach Nature Quest and STEAM Explorers in the Hub, where we dive into the wonders of science, nature, and creative problem-solving — all through hands-on, creative, curious learning. With a background in science and years of experience in education, I’m passionate about sparking that “wow!” moment in children — whether we’re mixing potions from plants, exploring the changing Earth, or inventing with STEAM. I love helping young learners connect ideas, ask big questions, and explore the world through fun, engaging, and meaningful experiences. When I’m not teaching in the Hub, you might find me delivering workshops, running STEM clubs, developing learning resources, supporting teachers, and training scientists! I can’t wait to welcome you to the adventure — let’s explore, experiment and get inspired by the amazing world around us!
