Content

  • Light it up!

    This term's STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and maths) project will inspire your children aged 9+ when they blend art and engineering to create their own light-up greeting cards, decorations, and/or artwork using paper circuits.

    Throughout the project, I will model the process of making circuits, demonstrating how to use conductive tape, LEDs, and coin cell batteries to create functional designs. Templates will be available to guide their layouts, helping them grasp the basics of electric circuits. Over five sessions, they will learn to assemble their circuits, design their artwork around these circuits, and incorporate creative elements. As they complete their projects, participants will enhance their problem-solving skills and engineering knowledge, resulting in unique illuminated creations that showcase their creativity.

    Gain practical experience in assembling circuits using conductive tape, LEDs, and coin cell batteries.

    Explore ways to creatively incorporate circuits into artistic designs, enhancing their projects with personal touches.

Hello! I’m Hannah – the founder of Story STEAM – inspiring your children in all things STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) Coding and Lego! So, a little bit about me… Since completing my BEd Primary Studies (hons) with a specialism in Design Technology, I’ve been a teacher (Reception to Year 6) for over 20 years. In between those 20+ years, I moved to Nara, Japan to take part in the JET (Japanese Exchange and Teaching) programme where I taught English as an additional language to middle-schoolers and adults for 3 years. On returning to live in the UK, I was given responsibility for English and ICT/Computing in the school I worked in. Fast forward to 2020 and remote teaching planted a seed in my mind. During the lockdowns, I spent time reflecting and thinking about what children are not getting at school that I could bring to them online. Story STEAM was born! My son Tomi loves helping with my classes – testing out ideas – especially with coding and micro:bit! Children need time to invent and be creative; it’s good for their mental health. Through STEAM, Coding and Lego Club activities, I hope to give children the opportunity to create while using maths, learning about science, technology, engineering and most importantly – HAVE FUN!
