  • Description: Design and Make a Clock. Create a working clock in this exciting project suitable for children aged 6-14 while delving into the captivating world of timekeeping and horology. The children will use their wildest imaginations to design their own clock face out of wood, card or correx, then fit the clock movement inside. The clock is an ideal way to explore the world of S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) and get creative with a variety of finishing techniques as it can incorporate any interest or theme. During the sessions, participants will have the opportunity to design, make, evaluate and gain technical knowledge while exploring S.T.E.A.M (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) related to the fascinating world of clocks. Quartz clock movement kits are available to order from Hannah. Please email [email protected] for more info. Should you prefer to source your own materials, Hannah can guide you on that front as well. Science: How the advent of the railway in the 19th century necessitated standardised timekeeping. Technology: Use research and develop design criteria to inform the design of an innovative, functional and appealing clock. Engineering: Gain technical knowledge related to clock mechanisms and their components. Art: Explore different materials and techniques to finish their clock design. Maths: Understand and use the concept of time, including reading clocks. Measuring accurately. Components and materials needed: Clock mechanism (available to order from Hannah) Card, correx or wood for the clock face design. (Wood will need a hole to be drilled). Craft materials and paints - depending on desired finish. Scissors, craft knife, cutting mat Pencils, pens, ruler, protractor, pair of compasses.
