    Design & Make a Pneumatic Sarcophagus (Ancient Egypt theme). Join Hannah for an exciting S.T.E.A.M project where we will explore the wonders of ancient Egypt through hands-on activities culminating in the creation of 'Pneumatic Sarcophagus' to surprise your friends & family!

    Throughout the sessions, participants will design, make & decorate the working model sarcophagus, which has a pneumatic mechanism to open a lid, revealing a mummy inside! We'll be inspired by at Egyptian art & create hieroglyphics to decorate the sarcophagus.

    This engaging project integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Maths while encouraging creativity & problem-solving - all with a history theme!

    What you need: We'll be using syringes & plastic tubing to make our working models & kits will be available to order from Hannah or you can source you own materials.   • Participants will have the opportunity to:

    1. learn the basic principles of pneumatics (& hydraulics) & how air pressure can be used to create movement, applying this knowledge to design & construct a working pneumatic mechanism.

    2. explore the engineering marvels of ancient Egypt, such as pyramids and irrigation systems, & understand how ancient engineers solved complex problems with the resources available to them.

    3. enhance their skills in measuring, cutting, assembling materials & troubleshooting mechanical systems.

    4. engage in artistic activities, including decorating the sarcophagus with hieroglyphics & creating miniature pottery pieces & Egyptian jewellery.

Hello! I’m Hannah – the founder of Story STEAM – inspiring your children in all things STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) Coding and Lego! So, a little bit about me… Since completing my BEd Primary Studies (hons) with a specialism in Design Technology, I’ve been a teacher (Reception to Year 6) for over 20 years. In between those 20+ years, I moved to Nara, Japan to take part in the JET (Japanese Exchange and Teaching) programme where I taught English as an additional language to middle-schoolers and adults for 3 years. On returning to live in the UK, I was given responsibility for English and ICT/Computing in the school I worked in. Fast forward to 2020 and remote teaching planted a seed in my mind. During the lockdowns, I spent time reflecting and thinking about what children are not getting at school that I could bring to them online. Story STEAM was born! My son Tomi loves helping with my classes – testing out ideas – especially with coding and micro:bit! Children need time to invent and be creative; it’s good for their mental health. Through STEAM, Coding and Lego Club activities, I hope to give children the opportunity to create while using maths, learning about science, technology, engineering and most importantly – HAVE FUN!
