Content

  • Learning Show Description

Uncover the patterns that organise the building blocks of our universe in The Periodic Table.

In this engaging science block, learners will explore how elements are arranged, what atoms are made of, and how scientists use the periodic table to predict properties and behaviour.

From identifying metals and non-metals to exploring groups like noble gases and halogens, this course helps learners make sense of one of the most important tools in science.

Along the way, they’ll discover how different elements are used in everyday life and begin to understand the structure hidden behind chemical symbols.

Each session includes interactive activities, discussion, and a short end-of-lesson quiz to build confidence and understanding.

This block is ideal for learners who enjoy spotting patterns, solving puzzles, and understanding how the world is put together.

  • Course Objectives

By the end of this block, learners will be able to:

Describe the main features of the periodic table, including groups and periods.

Explain the basic structure of an atom.

Compare the electronic structure of a metal and a non-metal atom.

Describe the uses of at least two noble gases.

Describe the uses of at least two halogens.

Identify an element from its chemical symbol.

Distinguish between metals and non-metals in the periodic table.

Identify at least three groups of elements, such as the alkali metals.

    Aims of the block:

To develop understanding of key chemistry concepts.

To build confidence in using scientific language and symbols.

To strengthen pattern recognition and logical thinking.

To connect scientific ideas to real-world uses of elements.
