Springtime Stories

Springtime Stories will help develop pupils' reading, writing, and speaking skills through a seasonal theme.

Across five lessons, children explore The Very Hungry Caterpillar, build rich vocabulary, and practise sentence structure and punctuation.

Pupils learn to identify key features of a story, including setting, characters, and simple plot structure, while developing their use of adjectives and conjunctions to add detail to their writing.

We will play some Kahoot quizzes and Bingo to test our knowledge!

The unit will end in children planning and writing their own short spring themed story, applying the skills they have learned.

Throughout the unit, opportunities for discussion, creativity, and editing help pupils grow in confidence as independent writers.

Course Objectives:

Write simple narratives based on personal ideas and experiences.

Use adjectives to describe settings and characters.

Write a sequence of sentences to form a short story.

Plan writing by discussing ideas and organising them into a beginning, middle and end.

Use capital letters and full stops correctly.

Use conjunctions (and, but, because) to join ideas.

Use expanded noun phrases to add detail.

Retell parts of a story orally.

Read their own writing aloud with confidence.

Reread writing to check for sense.

Make simple improvements to vocabulary and punctuation.
