Content

  • Non-fiction: Animals

In this exciting journey into the world of non-fiction, our Year 2 learners become real life researchers, readers, and writers!

The unit begins with pupils discovering the unique features of non-fiction books.

From bold titles to eye-catching captions, and learning how these texts help us find out fascinating facts about the world.

Next, children practise reading for information, becoming fact detectives who can spot key details and use headings to guide their learning.

As the lessons progress, pupils carry out their own mini-research projects, gathering facts from books and digital sources and organising them into clear, structured notes.

They then plan and create their very own non-fiction page, complete with subheadings, labelled pictures, and interesting facts to share with others.

We will play some fun kahoots to test our fact knowledge and animal bingo games!
