  • Once upon a Picture Powerful Story Openings

    Are You Ready to Become a Storyteller? ✨

    What if one picture could unlock a thousand stories? In our next Year 5/6 English block of lessons, you’ll be challenged to turn mysterious, magical and dramatic images from Once Upon a Picture and Pobble 365 into powerful story openings.

    You’ll experiment with suspense, adventure, fantasy and emotional storytelling, learn how to hook different audiences, and use varied sentence structures/ openers to craft sentences that grab a reader’s attention from the very first line.

    By the end, you won’t just be writing stories - you’ll be writing like a real author, choosing your words carefully to thrill, move or even terrify your reader.

  • Course Objectives:

    Plan Writing By:

    • Identifying audience and purpose
    • Selecting appropriate form
    • Noting and developing ideas from images
    • Using organisational and structural devices

    Draft and Write By:

    • Selecting appropriate grammar and vocabulary
    • In narratives, describing settings, characters and atmosphere
    • Integrating dialogue to convey character and advance action
    • Using a wide range of devices to build cohesion

    Evaluate and Edit By:

    • Assessing effectiveness of own and others’ writing
    • Proposing changes to vocabulary, grammar and punctuation
    • Ensuring consistent and correct use of tense

Hiya everyone, I’m Stacey. I’m a primary school teacher from Nottinghamshire. Currently I teach year 6 and have done for the last 6 years as once you’re in they don’t tend to let you out. 😂 I have also taught in years 3 and 5. The best part about my job is watching those lightbulb moments where children just get it! I love watching them grow in confidence from the beginning to the end of a lesson! Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and taking my Spanish rescue dog , Lila, on long treks through the woods! We’ve found many deer but never any bears on our hunts!
