Content

  • The Barnabus Project

    During this exciting reading and writing block, we will delve into the world of Barnabus and his friends waaaayyy down in the part of the lab where ‘failed projects’ are kept.

    We will read the story of Barnabus, while making predictions, inferences, retrieving information from a text and developing an understanding of characters and their development throughout the story.

    As writers, we will create and describe our own failed project, we will use images and reading to help us describe settings, develop atmosphere and mood within our writing. We will pause reading the story at several points throughout to respond with writing activities such as short grammar tasks focusing on extending sentences with adjectives, prepositions, relative clauses, a setting description of the ‘world above’ a character profile and description, and a newspaper report and lastly a book review and recommendation.

  • Course Objectives:

    To respond to texts, empathizing with characters, understanding their motives and feelings at different points of a story.

    To comprehend what has been read and answer questions using the skills of retrieval, inference, vocabulary, summary and explain.

    To develop grammatical understanding of word classes (parts of speech) and how they are used in writing to add detail and effect.

    To write for an intended purpose and audience when writing and use the specific writing features of each text type.

Hiya everyone, I’m Stacey. I’m a primary school teacher from Nottinghamshire. Currently I teach year 6 and have done for the last 6 years as once you’re in they don’t tend to let you out. 😂 I have also taught in years 3 and 5. The best part about my job is watching those lightbulb moments where children just get it! I love watching them grow in confidence from the beginning to the end of a lesson! Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and taking my Spanish rescue dog , Lila, on long treks through the woods! We’ve found many deer but never any bears on our hunts!
