  • Plastic Planet - Powerful Persuasion

Can your words change someone's world?
    Plastic is everywhere.
In our homes. In our schools. In our shops. In our oceans.
But what happens when something designed to be used for minutes remains in our environment for hundreds or even thousands of years?
In Plastic Planet: Powerful Persuasion, children will investigate the global plastic pollution crisis and discover how powerful writers and campaigners use facts, statistics, vocabulary, grammar and emotion to influence their readers.
But this isn't just about learning how to write persuasively.
It is about having something important to say.
Throughout the course, children will explore the impact of plastic pollution, discuss possible solutions and study the ways campaigners persuade people to change.
They will then choose their own target audience and identify a change they want that audience to make — from reducing single-use plastics to reusing, recycling or disposing of plastic responsibly.
Their journey will culminate in a powerful persuasive speech designed to make their audience stop, think and, most importantly... ACT!

  • Course Objectives:

recognise the features of powerful persuasive writing.
research facts and evidence about plastic pollution.
use words and sentences that persuade and influence.
organise our arguments so they are clear and convincing.
write a persuasive speech for a specific audience and purpose.
edit, improve and present our speech to inspire people to ACT!

Tutor

Stacey .

Year 5/6 Tutor

Hiya everyone, I’m Stacey. I’m a primary school teacher from Nottinghamshire.
Currently I teach year 6 and have done for the last 6 years as once you’re in they don’t tend to let you out. 😂 I have also taught in years 3 and 5. The best part about my job is watching those lightbulb moments where children just get it! I love watching them grow in confidence from the beginning to the end of a lesson!
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and taking my Spanish rescue dog , Lila, on long treks through the woods! We’ve found many deer but never any bears on our hunts!

Parent Comments

“I would like to say thank you for the service you provided, you have always been very helpful whenever I had any questions. Primarily you offer a great service, doing lessons online and watching the videos was a game changer for my daughter as she could watch them at home on her own schedule. Subsequently this has allowed her to take 2 additional GCSEs that she would not have done other wise. Thank you very much”

David, parent

“Thank you so much for everything!! You have been an absolute life saver. There was a time when I couldn't possibly imagine my son taking any GCSEs at all, and here we are ploughing through the past papers and sending him off to exams with a calm and confident son. Extraordinary! Thank goodness for you and your efforts to help kids like him - we will be eternally grateful.”

Katharine, parent

“I would like to say a huge Thank you for your incredible service. Such a brilliant concept and as an ex-teacher I'm very impressed with the quality of teaching, resources, well everything really! My 14year old is like a different child nowadays, wish I had deregistered him years ago in hindsight. Thank you!”

Claire, parent

“I just wanted to say thank you so much for all you do at the Hub. It is such a Godsend for us. Our kids are enjoying their lessons, the live interaction with other kids and the lovely, lovely teachers. Where did you find such wonderful, knowledgeable but incredibly patient people?! It’s such a relief our kids can get a tailor made, good quality, British style education even as we live out this slightly crazy life here in the Mexican jungle! Thank you very much to all involved.”
