  • Description: Window on the world. News news news - A window on the world! Join me in this reading and writing block where we will be reading current news stories from around the world. We will become familiar with CBBCs news round to watch and read happy news - stories to make us smile as well as strange news from around the globe and our planet’s environmental news. We will express our thoughts and opinions and discuss what we have read. We will develop our reading fluency skills and comprehension of what we have read by answering questions, completing quizzes and identifying fact from opinion. We will learn the difference between direct and reported speech and write our own examples of each. We will identify journalistic techniques and textual features before having a go at writing some of our own. L/O: Identify the features of journalistic writing in the form of news articles. Identify literary devices used by journalists to inform their audience whilst also grabbing their attention using puns, alliteration, rhyme and shock factor tactics. Identify and use direct and reported speech. Answer VIPER reading questions showing understanding of what has been read. Identify the 5Ws and H and be able to write an introductory (lead) paragraph of a news story before researching and writing a short news article based on a story which has caught your attention. I will be using literacy shed + news news news which is an educational paid for resource aimed at KS2 children so there won’t be anything inappropriate news wise. I will also use CBBC newsround for intriguing/ interesting news stories for the lessons.
