Wondrous Writing

We are all AUTHORS! We can write what we like.

In this new writing block you get the freedom to choose the style of writing outcome you'd like to produce.

Write freely, write for pleasure and write to enjoy it :) What will you write?

A story, A letter? A recipe? A description? A diary entry? A speech? An email/ blog? The choice is yours.

In our first writing block of the year we will be studying writing through given texts, picture prompts and videos to inspire writing of our own.

We will learn a new grammatical skill each lesson and then apply this into our writing. :)

We will look at different grammatical features of writing that we can use to up-level our writing. We will consider the purpose and audience of our writing and use powerful adjectives, verbs, adverbs and prepositions.

We will look at ‘sick sentences’ and how they can be made better, considering what needs correcting and perfecting.

We will then write for pleasure through free writing, applying the grammar for writing we have learnt.

Course Objectives:

To follow a given sentence structure (Alan Peat’s - amazing sentences).

Experiment with sentence structure using main and subordinate clauses and varied openers.

Use both coordinating and subordinating conjunction within our writing.

Use relative and embedded clauses to add detail about a noun.

Assess the effectiveness of others writing, and use as examples to inspire our own.
