Content

  • PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A 4-WEEK BLOCK. In this block, participants will have the opportunity to expand their Japanese language skills and cultural understanding. Over four engaging sessions, they will explore essential aspects of everyday life in Japan from learning the names for family members, how to say when their birthday is, counting objects (it's not as simple as ichi, ni, san...) and telling the time in Japanese. They will also build their vocabulary at the same time as learning essential kanji. There will be interactive activities and opportunities for dialogue practice enabling participants to develop their confidence in Japanese. It's also lots of fun with cultural reference and a high probability of silly stories from when I lived in Japan!

  • Learn the names for family members including siblings, parents, grandparents and aunt and uncle. Understand the concept of counters in Japanese and how they are used with different types of objects. e.g. fruits, animals and people. Understand the vocabulary related to months and dates including asking about others' birthdays and stating your own. Learn how to tell time in Japanese and practice asking and answering questions about time. This block builds on what we covered during the March '24 and April '24 blocks. If your child has already learned a little Japanese, they will be fine to join this block. (Child friendly JLPT level 5 and 4 - beginner level). I will use and introduce useful kanji but will always have furigana and romaji on the slides to aid reading and pronunciation. It very much focuses on my experience of life in Japan.日本で 三年 住んでいました. If they have been leaning Japanese for a while, it will help them revise and reinforce what they have learned and they will be sure to pick up new vocabulary or cultural references they wouldn't get from app or textbook!

STEAM, Coding, Lego & JapanTutor

Hello! I’m Hannah – the founder of Story STEAM – inspiring your children in all things STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) Coding and Lego! So, a little bit about me… Since completing my BEd Primary Studies (hons) with a specialism in Design Technology, I’ve been a teacher (Reception to Year 6) for over 20 years. In between those 20+ years, I moved to Nara, Japan to take part in the JET (Japanese Exchange and Teaching) programme where I taught English as an additional language to middle-schoolers and adults for 3 years. On returning to live in the UK, I was given responsibility for English and ICT/Computing in the school I worked in. Fast forward to 2020 and remote teaching planted a seed in my mind. During the lockdowns, I spent time reflecting and thinking about what children are not getting at school that I could bring to them online. Story STEAM was born! My son Tomi loves helping with my classes – testing out ideas – especially with coding and micro:bit! Children need time to invent and be creative; it’s good for their mental health. Through STEAM, Coding and Lego Club activities, I hope to give children the opportunity to create while using maths, learning about science, technology, engineering and most importantly – HAVE FUN!

“£2 tuition hub was the best resource I found my entire time home educating. I’m still currently using the £2 Hub 3 years later”

“Fantastic group has helped us through 3+ years of home ed, wish we knew of you before that when we first started ”

Sharon, Parent

“This group is without doubt an absolute blessing. Fantastic classes with amazing teachers at an extremely reasonable price. I for one am so thankful to you and your team for everything you all do. We appreciate the hub so much and are very grateful xx ”

Claire, Parent

“We have been taking part in the BSL lessons and the other day had great fun finger spelling while shopping. Two of my children have dyslexia with T being more severe, he hates and refuses spellings. Along comes BSL and he’s loving spellings!” ”

Holly, Parent

“Our family are full time travellers and the hub is a life line for us. The children get to see and speak to adults who show a real interest in their learning and their lives. They get to pick lessons that they are interested in and have fun learning something new. The social hub was a real life line for us too. My 3 have made friends and love getting to chat to children and adults daily too. ”

Donna, Parent

“I can’t thank you enough for starting this group Amy. You gave me back my happy (not so little anymore) boy. Thanks to this group he’s realised he’s not the stupid, naughty kid that school made him believe he was. His sister is on school holidays and he’s doing recorded lessons by choice. Xxxx ”
