Content

  • This pre-recorded block explores poetry techniques, Shakespearean analysis and creative writing through the Taylor Swift album The Life of a Showgirl.

Across these lessons, students will study the lyrics as modern poetry, analysing connotations, imagery and deeper meanings. They’ll make links between Swift’s portrayal of performance, femininity and identity and Shakespeare’s presentation of Ophelia, developing their ability to interpret tone, voice and symbolism.

  • Each lesson includes a creative writing task inspired by the themes and techniques explored, helping students to apply literary knowledge in imaginative ways.

This block blends English literature and creative writing, perfect for students who enjoy music analysis, poetic language and exploring hidden meanings in lyrics.

  • - To analyse Taylor Swift’s lyrics as modern poetry, identifying the use of imagery, symbolism and connotation.

    - To explore how themes of performance, femininity and identity are presented in The Life of a Showgirl and linked to Shakespeare’s Ophelia.

    - To understand and apply key poetic techniques such as metaphor, alliteration and tone in both analysis and creative writing.

    - To interpret deeper meanings and writer’s intentions by examining language choices and emotional subtext.

    - To produce original creative writing inspired by the themes, style and voice of the album.

Hi everyone! I’m Amy and I’ve been a private tutor since 2020. I previously worked as a teacher where I taught in almost every year you can think of! I’ve worked in mainstream, independent and special schools. I’m passionate about every child being able to access an education that is right for them and I’m excited to be a part of that! During my time as a teacher, I worked with students with very high anxiety and as a result I’m an empathetic tutor and always aim for students to feel safe and secure in my lessons first and foremost. I also like to produce fun and engaging lessons that focus on topics that students are actually interested in! I love travelling, reading and spending time at home with my baby, husband and dog! I also run my own greeting card company and have sold over 50,000 designs! I am so excited to be joining the hub and to meet you all. I am a huge advocate for home education and I love what the £2 hub stands for! I hope to see in my lessons soon!

“I can’t thank you enough for starting this group Amy. You gave me back my happy (not so little anymore) boy. Thanks to this group he’s realised he’s not the stupid, naughty kid that school made him believe he was. His sister is on school holidays and he’s doing recorded lessons by choice. Xxxx ”

“Our family are full time travellers and the hub is a life line for us. The children get to see and speak to adults who show a real interest in their learning and their lives. They get to pick lessons that they are interested in and have fun learning something new. The social hub was a real life line for us too. My 3 have made friends and love getting to chat to children and adults daily too. ”

“We have been taking part in the BSL lessons and the other day had great fun finger spelling while shopping. Two of my children have dyslexia with T being more severe, he hates and refuses spellings. Along comes BSL and he’s loving spellings!” ”
